Frequently asked questions
How often do we meet, how long is a session, how many sessions?
We meet once a week for a 50 minute session for a long as you need to.
Why do I need to talk to a counsellor?
Sometimes it's easier to talk to someone confidentially that you don't know rather than a family member or friend.
How will I know what to talk about?
It's your time to talk about whatever it is that is troubling you. When meeting for an initial assessment, which lasts 30 minutes, we will discuss what you want from counselling and work towards that goal.
Do I have to come every week?
Generally in the beginning it can be helpful but we can set the pace to suit your needs.
Am I going mad?
Sometimes clients deeply depressed or bereaved have said to me "am I going mad", in my experience they are not going mad but they are sad and this has been helpful to normalise their concerns. Being able to talk openly about these concerns is helpful in a non-judgemental environment.
Will I know what to say each week?
I can help you to explore the issues and together we can find a focus or a goal that you wish to work towards.
