Introduction

Hello and Welcome to my website.

My name is Jan West and I am a professionally qualified Accredited Counsellor. I have many years experience in counselling and have worked in numerous different settings with a wide variety of clients.

My theory base is Transactional Analysis. The benefit of TA is the understanding of ourselves and our relationships. I enjoy using a variety of transactional tools with clients and some really enjoy the visual experience of this work.

I am currently working in Primary Care and I have taught on a counselling skills course in adult education on a Counselling Skills course in adult education, I also have my own private practice.

I enjoy working with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. I have worked with a lot of relationship issues, interpersonal skills and also personal development. I also have experience in working with anger management, bereavement and loss issues.

My specialist areas are in rape & sexual abuse, which includes, childhood abuse issues, physical abuse and trauma.

I am a member of the BACP and adhere to their Code of Ethics.

I am committed to my own personal and professional development. I do this by attending workshops, seminars, reading journals and I am part of a network of colleagues. This enables me to cross refer if it becomes apparent during our work together that you need a specialism I do not have.

I work in a quiet area of Hedge End with easy access to the M27. Appointments are available daytimes, evenings and on Saturdays.

I offer one-to-one counselling to individuals who may be experiencing difficulties or require more understanding of themselves.

With regard to the number of sessions I find it helpful when we meet to discuss individual needs as some people find 1-2 sessions are enough and others require more. We can work this out together for as long as we both feel it is beneficial.
